MIDLOTHIAN MP WELCOMES NEW SUPERCOMPUTER
Midlothian MP David Hamilton has welcomed HECTOR, a new £60 million super computer, to Midlothian.
The new computer will be based at Edinburgh University’s Advanced Computing Facility in Midlothian. It is one of the top twenty computers worldwide, can perform 63 trillion calculations a second and more importantly will secure jobs, research and investment in science in Midlothian.
David Hamilton joined Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling MP at the launch of HECTOR, after the event he said ‘I am delighted that HECTOR will be based here in Midlothian. The computer will contribute to world leading and cutting edge research, it will also attract jobs and new research grants to the area’.
HECTOR will be used to develop solutions to climate change, develop new drugs, fight heart disease, build new planes and many other exciting developments.
